carnaval - oruro

Each year on the Saturday before Ash Wednesday, the usually sleepy Oruro comes alive, hosting the world renowned Carnival. The unique festival features spectacular folk dances, extravagant costumes, beautiful crafts, lively music, and up to 20 hours of continuous partying. A party like no other, Oruro Carnival is Bolivia’s most sought after tourist attraction, drawing crowds of up to 400,000 people annually. Whilst the festival is celebrated throughout most of the country, Oruro is without doubt the most popular, offering a memorable experience for all those involved.

THE CHALLENGE

The project was commissioned by the City Council of Oruro. With more than 400,000 tourist pouring into the city and the lack of a central unifying application to cater to the needs of the city as well as the visitors, I was engaged to develop a full fledge app that included developing the website, both native apps (Android and IOs) and collaterals.

Design a first in class app on where a user would make the following services completely online.

  • Transportation from Airport to venue
  • Hotel Reservations
  • Ticketing online
  • City tours

MY ROLE

I was responsible for the experience strategy and design of the iOS/Android apps. I lead the UX work, producing all deliverables and presenting these to the client 2 months prior to the start of the carnival. I worked alongside a local UX Architect who focused on the technology stack. User Research and Market Analysis, Information architecture, prototyping, UI design Content strategy, Design System, Style Guide creation, and Art Direction.

Measurable Goals

I measured conversion by activated and retained users. A predictive analytics system implemented by google analytics and SEO provided a quantifiable data.

I took an objective approach to design, testing and measuring everything from usability to aesthetics thereby achieving a balance between look and feel and performance.

User Experience
